Mobile Zym Blog

Hey everyone.

A new version of our mobile version has been given to us. We feel that it now loads a bit faster, but not the fastest possible. Along with that, there’s a new icon. If you dislike the new icon let me know, we’ll figure out how to put the old icon back while still letting people get the new one.

Both Busy Bee and Pilot Tester, made by digitalzenit.com, are great little games for your children.

Busy Bee:

The point of the game is to collect flowers. All you have to do is move the bee with your finger and touch the flowers. While it is simple, it is fun for children. This game seems to be aimed more towards girls, but boys can play it as well =].

Pilot Tester:

Pilot Tester is a game where you are trying to avoid being hit by other planes. You touch the plane in the center and then move it around trying to avoid getting hit by other planes.

Both games have multiple difficulty levels, and are great fun for children.

Kyper Review

“Maneuver your ship through an asteroid field, testing your reflexes as your ship builds up more and more speed. The “boost” asteroids have a gravitational field which propel your ship forward, while the “brake” asteroids’ gravitational field slows you. Use the radar display to keep an eye on what’s coming up, and get ready for some intense flying.”

I highly recommend this game. It’s is a lot of fun and addicting. And it’s only $.99!

Brisca – An old card game brought to the iPhone

brisca
Brisca is an old Italian (or Spanish) card game. It could also be called Briscola. I had never heard of the game before reviewing this app, but I have to say it’s quite fun. It’s kind of like war, with a spin. The object of the game is to get the most points overall. Each card, 2,4,5,6,7,8,9 are worth 0 points, so you don’t really need to worry about those cards. A 10 is worth 2 points, 11 worth 3, 12 worth 4, a 3 is worth 110 and a 1 (ace) is worth 11. At the beginning you pick one of two cards, whichever is higher (in point value, or if they’re all 0 then whichever number is bigger) wins, and you get to put down the first card. The deck is then shuffled, each person is dealt three cards, and a card is flipped up next to the deck. That card names the trump suit. That trump suit has the ability to win over any other card. And now its just like any other game of war. Except for how the person that puts a card down first gets to decide the sub-trump suit, the second trump suit that you have to put a card in that suit thats higher than the opponnents card to win. Also, you can pick from any of the three cards in your hand. After each hand you get another card, until the pile is all used. The app has music, and nice effects. It shows how a lot of time has been put into making this app. I give it a 4 out of 5.

SimplyTweet: An OK Twitter App [Outdated Review]

This review is outdated. Please view the new version of the review for the most helpful information.

Recently (2 months) I started using Twitter. Nobody that I know uses Twitter, but I told myself that when it becomes popular where I live, I will be ready and have a head start. So with my new Twitter account and an iPod Touch, I began searching for a simple, yet user friendly Twitter(ing?) app.

My search began with free apps. I found a few that looked cool, but the interface was just too much for me. Then I came to SimplyTweet. While the app isn’t visually impressive (the icon needs a redesign–but the Dev has heard that a ton, so I’ll just let that go),  I have found that the app does a good job of reading your friends tweets very easy. The developer of SimplyTweet told me that SimplyTweet’s focus is mainly on reading your friends tweets. That said, it also allows for you to tweet as well. There aren’t too many options when you make a tweet (no inserting location, photo links, etc.), but it is still a great, SIMPLE, twitter app that works very well.

I would recommend SimplyTweet if you are new to Twitter, and are just starting to pick up on how to use it and adjusting to yet another social network. The non-complex UI will make it a great app for all new Twitter users with iPhones and iPod Touches. HOWEVER, I do think that the $3.99 price tag might be a bit high for the current feature set. Once more is added to SimplyTweet, $3.99 will be more appropriate. For now, $0.99 or $1.99 seems more appropriate to me.

I give this app 3.5 stars out of 5.  There are lots more things this app could include that would make it even better. (better icon, interface redesign that improves appearance, but maintains simplicity). I really hope this app continues to be actively developed–there is a lot of potential for SimplyTweet.

SimplyTweet is available in the App Store for $3.99. [iTunes Link]

EDIT: I feel like emphasizing this a bit more–Simply Tweet is perfect if you just want to read your friends tweets. If that is what you mostly use Twitter for, then SimplyTweet is probably good for you.

If you are always posting your status to Twitter, SimplyTweet will work for you, but will not allow advanced features such as linking to photos, inserting location information and URL’s.
