SimplyTweet – The Updated Review

Before I start my review, here is a brief summary of the review I gave SimplyTweet back on March 5th, 2009.

SimplyTweet is for you if you are new to Twitter, and are just starting to pick up on how to use it and adjusting to yet another social network. The non-complex UI will make it a great app for all new Twitter users with iPhones and iPod Touches. HOWEVER, I do think that the $3.99 price tag might be a bit high for the current feature set. Once more is added to SimplyTweet, $3.99 will be more appropriate. For now, $0.99 or $1.99 seems more appropriate to me. There are lots more things this app could include that would make it even better. (better icon, interface redesign that improves appearance, but maintains simplicity). I really hope this app continues to be actively developed–there is a lot of potential for SimplyTweet.

Its been just two months since that review, and there have been more changed and improvements to SimplyTweet than I had ever expected. I’m going to run through the top 10 changes to SimplyTweet.

First, the interface has been touched up. It looks much better than it did in the earlier versions.

Second, SimplyTweet now supports multiple accounts. This is a big thing for many users (though not for me). Accounts are easily managed under the “More” tab.

Third, more ways of browsing twitter are now available. One thing I really like about twitter is being able to see the trends (what everyone is twittering about). SimplyTweet now has a tab called “Trends” which shows the top 10 tweeted items.

Fourth, you can create custom views. Say you’re whole family actively uses twitter. You can create a custom view that will only show the family members you want. All you have to do is go to that persons profile page in SimplyTweet, and select “Add to Saved View”.

Fifth, when composing a tweet, there is now an “@” button. Hitting this will show all of your twitter friends. Selecting one will insert their username into the tweet. This is easier than memorizing your friends usernames.

Sixth, SimplyTweet now supports photos. This is just great. There isn’t much to say about it, but its great! Did I mention its amazing and great? :)

Seventh, you can now retweet your tweets, save notes about your friends accounts, and save articles to InstaPaper.

Eighth, there is a built in Web Browser. I actually can’t remember if the first version had this or not, but either way, its worth mentioning because it works very well.

Ninth, you can now save a bookmarklet in Mobile Safari that, when selecting it, will launch SimplyTweet and take the URL of your current page and begin composing a tweet with that URL inserted into it.

And the Tenth great new feature is actually not a new feature. Its better…

I believe that SimplyTweet is DEFINITELY now worth the $3.99 price tag. In fact, I would say its a steal at the price.

Wether your new to Twitter, or are twittering about every action you take throughout your day, you will find that SimplyTweet has all the features you could want and need, for a great price, and in an easy to use package.

I now give SimplyTweet a solid 5 stars. The developer of SimplyTweet does a great job of updating on a very regular basis with new features and bug fixes.

SimplyTweet is available in the App Store for $3.99 from MotionObj. [iTunes Link]
